Eminem Revives Slim Shady for 'Houdini' at 2024 VMAs, Wins Best Hip-Hop

E minem may have titled his latest album "The Death of Slim Shady," but he brought the iconic platinum-blond alter ego back to life for his first live TV performance of the new project.

Kicking off the 2024 MTV VMAs, the rapper redid his classic 2000 VMA performance when he performed in front of 100 lookalikes. This time, Eminem came into Long Island's UBS Arena sporting a platinum-blond wig with a crew of Slim Shady lookalikes as he performed his track Houdini.

After the intro, Eminem transitioned into Somebody Save Me, during which he removed his wig and wore a black hat in his new look. Feat'ed artist Jelly Roll was touring so did not appear; however, bits of his verses were flashed up on video across the stage.

Eminem ended by sitting in a chair, deep in thought, as the crowd erupted into applause. Eminem arrived at the 2024 VMAs on a roll with a bank of eight nominations: for Video of the Year, Best Hip-Hop, Song of the Summer and most iconic performance by the VMAs, doing his 2000 medley. He concluded the night having won Best Hip-Hop in addition to Best Visual Effects, forcing him clear of Peter Gabriel as the artist with the most VMA wins for a solo male in history.

Eminem also won 15 VMAs, an all-time record for rap artists and is the most nominated artist of all time with 67 nods behind only Madonna's 71. Taylor Swift leads the pack with 12 nominations followed closely by Post Malone, Ariana Grande, Megan Thee Stallion, SZA, and Sabrina Carpenter with seven nods each.
