Elizabeth Olsen Open to Scarlet Witch Return with Strong Storyline

E lizabeth Olsen said how much she would love to come back to playing Wanda Maximoff, also more famously known as the Scarlet Witch, within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). She continues looking forward to playing the character when a good, cohesive storyline will be told about her and the people connected to her life.

Olsen introduced Wanda Maximoff to the world in Avengers: Age of Ultron and has since dived into this character in many MCU movies and series, but none more notable than the much-acclaimed 2021 TV series WandaVision. Speaking recently to Dublin's FM104, Olsen shared a somewhat nuanced view on coming back to the role: "I love coming back to this character when there's a meaningful and well-thought-out way to use her," Olsen said. She reflects at times on her journey with the character. "There was a time when I felt that the character wasn't being used to her full extent," Olsen admitted, saying that though she is thankful for how Wanda was utilized in Age of Ultron, there were some moments where she felt that the character's potential wasn't being made the most of.

She mentioned WandaVision, a project that made all those facets of her personality into a "new dimension." The series not only delved deeper into the background of the character but brought Olsen the most critical acclaim she ever saw so far, with her first-ever Emmy nomination for Best Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series. WandaVision was quite an experience for "since it dared to find innovative ways in developing Wanda in ways that haven't been previously explored," according to Olsen. A visit back to the MCU for her would need to be at the same depth and creativity level. "If there's a strong narrative that makes sense and does justice to the character, I'm always open to coming back and making it work."

While Olsen does not appear to shut another door for her in the Marvel universe, she also observes that she is excited to have a more diversified acting career outside of the MCU. Olsen shared with The Times of London that she is ready to portray different characters and genres. "I'm very much looking forward to exploring different characters and genres," Olsen said. As a result, "I need diversity and balance in my career to not get stuck into one kind of acting." She explained her need for a variety of roles to rejuvenate and refresh her career further. "It is not that I don't love playing the Scarlet Witch; however, I believe the embracement of different roles is required for my own growth as an actress and, quite frankly, for some balance in my career."
